MJS Inspirational Award

 

 [Transcript: Hello, This vlog is about the Marilyn J. Smith Inspirational Award 2020. Marilyn J. Smith is known as the founder of ADWAS. This is a local award and nominees must be currently active in the Washington state Deaf communities only.

Award Criteria: Nominees must meet all five criteria: 1. Dedicated: Contributes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the Deaf and/or DeafBlind communities 2. Visionary: Reflective on past experiences to lead in the present and into the future 3. Mission-Centered: Creates a compelling vision of social justice for the Deaf and/or DeafBlind communities 4. Collaborative: Values the importance of collaborations both within and outside of the community 5. Ability to Inspire: Has passion for their work in the community and inspires others with that passion to create change in their own communities. So now you know of someone who is a good fit for this award, but what’s next?

Nomination Procedure: The nominator must fill out an application which consists of your information and the nominee’s information. Also either write a letter or do a vlog to ADWAS that provides a detailed account of the ways the nominee has shown that they meet all five criteria for the Marilyn J. Smith Inspirational Award. After March 16th, we will collect nominations and a selection committee consisting of members of ADWAS staff, board, a community member, and the Executive Director will review the application and score the nominees in each of the criteria categories.

They will inform the winner of the award and announce the award on our breakfast fundraiser on April 17th, more information to come. We are looking forward to see your nominations. Thank you for your time. Bye!]
