ADWAS

On March 25, 1986 our founder, Marilyn J. Smith, established Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services (ADWAS). To commemorate our 35 years of service to the community, we have planned 35 days of trivia which includes stories from over three and a half decades. To join us in this celebration, follow our Facebook or visit our trivia archives below!

It all began with a small dream…

Marilyn J. Smith

Birthday Wishlist

I wish to have all that we need

To soften the blows on survivor’s lives

Unrestricted funding, keep the money coming

I wish we could listen with empathy

Respond from the heart with a fervent drive

That we would always bear in mind

That although we comfort and support

We fight…with THEM to survive

I wish for us to be the hands of healing

No matter how deep the scars

To be the light in their darkness

Be their safety resource both day and night

On my wishlist is increased mobile advocacy capabilities

And strengthened partnerships with other organizations and Communities

All across the state,

Most important on my list is you

And all the transcending things you do

To make this list of wishes come true
